Job Description: This position works as part of an interdisciplinary primary health care team. Under the direction of the Primary Health Care Manager, the Nurse Practitioner will provide primary health services to the community of the Saskatchewan Health Authority. The Nurse Practitioner will be responsible for assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of care for clients in the community both independently and collaboratively with a physician, depending upon the complexity of client needs. This includes: health promotion and protection; first line treatment and emergency services; provision of supportive counselling and instruction in management of medical conditions; disease and injury prevention; initiating and conducting community needs assessments and participating in evaluative projects; and collaboration with and referral to other health care professionals as required.

Education

  • Graduate from an approved School of Nursing. Baccalaureate Degree in Nursing is desired.
  • Certification in Primary Care Nurse Practitioner or equivalent program is required.
  • Current registration with the College of Registered Nurses of Saskatchewan (CRNS).
  • Possession of, and ability to maintain current registration as RN (NP) with the College of Registered Nurses of Saskatchewan (CRNS).
  • Current BCLS certifications. Must be willing to become certified in Opiod Agonist Therapy (OAT) upon commencement of position.

Experience

  • Minimum of three (3) years experience as a Registered Nurse in primary care, public health or acute care.
  • Minimum of one (1) year experience in community needs assessment, community development and health promotion.

Demonstrates knowledge of community services, programs and resources. Knowledge of health promotion and population health principles and concepts. Knowledge of common medical conditions and treatments. Demonstrates ability to assess the community for primary care needs. Demonstrates ability to recognize the need for holistic care to individuals, groups, families and the community. Demonstrates responsible decision making ability through the application of critical thinking. Demonstrates effective and professional verbal and non-verbal communication techniques. Demonstrates leadership and organizational skills. Demonstrates ability to show initiative and self-direction. Demonstrates ability to accept and implement change. Demonstrates empathy, trust and respect in the provision of care. Strong assessment and counseling skills. Ability to apply methods and principles of nursing process.

  • This is a community based position providing services within Primary Health Care Networks (Regina). Travel is required where needed. Home Base: 1056 Albert Street
