Job Description: Reporting to the Manager of the Breast Health Centre (BHC) and Surgical Pathways, the Senior Social Worker is responsible for providing psychosocial consultation, clinical assessment, clinical intervention, and counseling services to patients and families. This position actively participates in department education programs and is expected to adopt the interdisciplinary model that defines the department and participate in a manner that embraces this model. The BHC will provide a co-location of services specifically supporting individuals with suspected or confirmed breast cancer with interventional and diagnostic mammography and ultrasound, consultation with surgeons, patient education, rehabilitation, support, and navigation.

Human Resources Exemption: No

Experience

  • Minimum of two (2) years of experience in medical social work.
  • Three (3) years of supervised counseling experience preferred.

Education

  • Bachelor's degree in social work.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Demonstrated experience and expertise in recognized social work methodologies (e.g., counseling, group work, community development).
  • Knowledge of community, social, and healthcare programs within the province.
  • Communication skills for presenting complex information, including written documentation and verbal presentations.
  • Ability to plan and deliver education programs to patients, the public, and other healthcare workers.
  • Initiative and independent judgment to solve complex problems.
  • Human relations skills for conducting in-depth counseling and developing short- or long-term goals for patients in emotionally charged situations.
  • Emphasizes patient, client, and employee safety as a critical aspect of quality healthcare.

  • Membership with the Saskatchewan Association of Social Workers
  • Provides input into departmental and divisional planning.
  • Participates in addressing unmet needs and gaps in services.
  • Attends meetings and serves on committees as required.
