Job Description: Reporting to the Manager and working within a multidisciplinary team, The Social Worker works with patients who are experiencing significant mental health difficulties. The Social Worker is responsible for providing psychosocial intervention using a variety of treatment modalities (both individual and group) to persons preparing for bariatric surgery. The Social Worker provides a wide range of screening, assessment, and treatment services to clients. As a specialized clinician, the incumbent will possess knowledge of bariatric surgery and its complex psychological impact and will utilize strong clinical skills to provide psychotherapeutic interventions.

Experience

  • Experience and training in the following: Solution-Focused Counseling
  • Use of standardized tools for assessment.
  • Experience and training in the following: Cognitive Behavioral Therapy
  • Experience and education in mental health assessment and psychotherapy.
  • Experience and training in the following: Dialectical Behavioral Therapy
  • Exp. related to leadership, patient education, program development & evaluation.
  • Experience and training in the following: Acceptance and Commitment Therapy
  • Min. of two years' (post graduate) recent experience in clinical therapy.
  • Experience and training in the following: Mindfulness-based Therapy
  • Experience and training in the following: Motivational Interviewing

Education

  • Master's Degree in Clinical Social Work is required.
  • Must have current practicing registration with the Saskatchewan Association of Social Workers

Knowledge and Abilities

  • Ability to establish workload priorities.
  • General knowledge of psychopharmacology.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of psychotherapeutic and counseling skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate both one-on-one and in groups
  • Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing
  • Demonstrated ability to perform effective, evidenced-based treatment plans.
  • Broad knowledge of mental health community resources.
  • Sound clinical judgement skills.
  • Knowledge of appropriate community resources related to this patient population.
  • Knowledge of bariatric surgeries and the psychological impact

Other Information

  • Experience working in bariatric care considered a strong asset.
  • Preference to HSAS members as per the SAHO/HSAS Collective Agreement
