Experience

  • Experience with Adult education to staff/clients/patients/residents
  • Five years recent experience in community care to clients with mental illness
  • "Experience and demonstrated empathy in working with marginalized population "

Education

  • Clinical specialization appropriate to the practice is required

Licenses

  • Valid Class 5 driver's license
  • Registered Nurse (RN)
  • Registered Psychiatric Nurse (RPN)

Other Education and Training

  • Experience and demonstrated empathy in working with the aged population an asset
  • Experience with Adult education to other care providers an asset
  • Experience working in an interdisciplinary team environment an asset
  • Experience working with seniors and or adults with complex issues an asset
  • Experience in quality monitoring and evaluation an asset
  • Experience in program planning and evaluation an asset

Knowledge and Abilities

  • Knowledge of common conditions of seniors/adults that have effect on MH
  • Knowledge of the mental illnesses affecting seniors and adults
  • Knowledge of related effects of ageing on mental health in seniors
  • Ability to maintain good working relationships with the general public
  • Knowledge in applicable principles of nursing process and interventions
  • Ability to maintain harmonious working relationships.
  • Demonstrates empathy, trust and respect in the provision of care
  • Knowledge of treatment and effects of acute and post withdrawal
  • Demonstrated ability to integrate research based theory into practice
  • Ability to develop a monitoring program to assess and improve quality of care
  • Knowledge of Delirium, Depression and Dementia: presentation, causes and treatment
  • Knowledge of concurrent disorders in seniors
  • Working understanding of the Mental Health Services Act and related legislation
  • Ability to work independently
  • Knowledge of substance abuse and the effects
  • Ability to assume responsibility and work independently
  • Understanding of nursing process and interventions for seniors with MH issues
  • Knowledge of differences in treatment of mental illness in seniors from adults
