Job Description

The Saskatchewan Health Authority (SHA) - Saskatoon and University Saskatchewan, Department of Surgery, Division of General Surgery is seeking an academic General Surgeon with a focus in breast cancer as well as minimally invasive general surgery with specific interest in upper GI disorders. Collective responsibilities include clinical care of inpatients and outpatients as well as education of undergraduate and postgraduate trainees. Breast care will be provided through active involvement (at least 0.3 FTE) in the Saskatoon Breast Health Centre. The successful candidate will have appointments in both the SHA and the University of Saskatchewan, where teaching of surgical residents and medical students is integral. Participation in the Acute Care General Surgery call as well as Trauma call rosters is required.

The candidate will have demonstrated expertise in minimally invasive surgery through completion of a Fellowship Council accredited Advanced GI MIS & Bariatrics Fellowship. Completion of SAGES Fundamentals of Endoscopic Surgery (FES), Fundamentals of Laparoscopic Surgery (FLS) and Fundamental Use of Surgical Energy (FUSE) courses is essential. Training and experience in Robotic surgery and advanced endoscopy would also be desirable. The candidate must demonstrate a commitment to providing breast care with additional experience in this area as well as meet the Saskatoon Breast Health Centre criteria for surgical practice. The ideal candidate will have demonstrated interdisciplinary competence as demonstrated by active participation in multidisciplinary rounds.

Job Qualifications

The successful candidate will hold certification or be eligible for certification with the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada and be eligible for licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Saskatchewan.
