What you will do

Relationship Building

  • Build and maintain strong relationships with First Nations and Métis leadership, officials, and community members to support HQC's goals and strategic direction.
  • Act as a primary interface for the navigation of relationships and partnerships between stakeholders and HQC to ensure alignment with HQC goals.
  • Provide advice and guidance to internal team members and external stakeholders regarding effective engagement with First Nations and Métis leadership and communities to follow appropriate local protocols, customs, and culture.
  • Attends and participates in public events, stakeholder meetings and other opportunities to help promote HQC programs and services.
  • Presents and facilitates community information and engagement sessions to support HQC's goals and strategic direction.

Engagement Strategy

  • Develop a comprehensive Indigenous Engagement strategy aligned with the organization's values, goals, and commitments. This includes identifying opportunities for collaboration, addressing challenges, and ensuring the integration of indigenous perspectives into the decision-making process.
  • Work with HQC's strategic stakeholders to identify partnership opportunities with Indigenous communities and organizations to support HQC's goals related to First Nations and Métis Health.
  • Identify, propose, and implement strategic initiatives such as continuous improvement and research opportunities for First Nation and Métis engagement strategies.

Internal Collaboration

  • Ensure the provision of sound advice and assistance to all levels of management and staff in the organization specific to First Nation and Métis health and health care programs and services.
  • Serve as a key advisor on other HQC initiatives, working directly with the pertinent teams or staff on projects.
  • Act as an advisor to the Quality Improvement team on the planning and coordination of QI efforts with Indigenous communities to build and sustain positive long-term community and relationships. This also includes acting as an advisor on the development of project plans and timelines, written communications, and key messaging development.
  • Build and strengthen relationships, partnerships, and alliances that support strong engagement and cross-functional management throughout the organization.
  • Responsible for guiding and co-leading culturally responsive training for staff.
  • Support the development and implementation of HQC's annual cultural responsiveness plan and Truth and Reconciliation Action Plan.
  • Co-manage HQC's Cultural Advisory Committee
  • Other duties as assigned.

The pay grade for this position is: $83,317 to $108,312

Education

  • Have post-secondary education. A combination of education and relevant Indigenous cultural and/or work experience will be considered.

Licenses

  • Self-Identify as First Nations, Métis, or Inuit.
  • Successful candidates that assert Indigenous membership/citizenship will be asked to complete the verification process of Indigenous membership/citizenship with documentation as per HQC's POLICY RC0028 - Verifying indigenous identity.
  • Employees must also provide and maintain a satisfactory criminal record check.

Other Education and Training

  • 5+ years' experience developing and fostering strong Indigenous relationships and strategic partnerships that lead to mutually beneficial outcomes.
  • Experience working in a diverse and inclusive environment is required.
  • Saskatchewan health care industry experience would be considered an asset.
  • Ability to speak Indigenous languages such as Cree, Dakota, Dene, etc. will be considered an asset.
