Job Description: As a member of Mental Health and Addiction Services, the Community Mental Health Nurse is an integral member of the multidisciplinary team providing intensive case management to individuals with chronic and persistent mental illness. These services are provided within an individual and group context. Responsibilities include intensive case management, medication management, crisis intervention, counselling, goal planning, consultation to community agencies, group/community education, student mentoring, documentation, client/family and public education, advocacy, and mental health promotion.

Experience

  • Three (3) years direct experience in addictions field

Education

  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BScN)

Other Education and Training

  • Workplace Assessment & Violence Education (WAVE)
  • Psychiatric Nursing diploma is acceptable
  • Basic Life Support Certificate (BLS)
  • Bachelor of Psychiatric Nursing is acceptable
  • Basic Life Support Level C Certificate (BLS-C)
  • Nursing diploma is acceptable

  • Applied knowledge of Psychiatric/Psychological Disorders of substance dependency
  • Knowledge Transtheoretical Model of Change
  • Ability to work as a member of a multi-disciplinary team
  • Knowledge of concurrent medical, psychiatric and substance abuse
  • Advanced knowledge of drug abuse and their effects during use and withdrawal
  • Demonstrated high degree of accuracy is required of assigned responsibility
  • Applied knowledge of drugs abuse and their effects during use and withdrawal
  • Applied knowledge of Psychiatric/Psychological Disorders with substance abuse
  • Ability to work within a multi-disciplinary and community partnership program
  • Ability to triage cases
  • Knowledge in methadone/methadone assisted recovery
  • Demonstrates empathy, trust and respect in the provision of care
  • Knowledge in harm reduction in Addictions Medicine
  • Ability to work independently and as a member of a multi-disciplinary team
