Job Description

The Saskatchewan Health Authority (SHA) - Saskatoon and University of Saskatchewan, Department of Psychiatry is seeking a locum psychiatrist to cover a 1-year term starting December 16, 2024. The primary focus will be on the Mental Health Short Stay Unit (MHSSU) and the Emergency Room (ER). In addition to these primary responsibilities, the role includes duties at the Rapid Assessment Clinic (RAC), handling pooled referrals, and providing Crisis Day Call coverage. This combined quantity of available work for the position offers up to 1.0 Full-Time Equivalent (FTE).

Responsibilities include:

  • Mental Health Short Stay Unit (MHSSU): Provide 14-16 weeks of coverage over the year, typically 1-2 weeks every 6 weeks. Responsibilities include psychiatric assessments, treatment, and management for patients in the short-stay unit.
  • -Crisis Day Call Coverage: Provide 50-55 days of coverage throughout the year, generally 1-2 days per week when not assigned to MHSSU. Duties include psychiatric evaluations and crisis intervention during designated day shifts.
  • -Rapid Assessment Clinic (RAC) & Pooled Referrals: RAC and pooled referrals are flexible and may be adjusted to accommodate up to a total of 1.0 FTE.

Job Qualifications

Successful candidates will hold certification or be eligible for certification with the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada. In addition, the successful candidates must be eligible for licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Saskatchewan (CPSS).
