This job is based in the thriving and diverse city of Whitehorse in the beautiful Yukon.

Who we are looking for

Yukon's Family and Children Services Branch is looking for a Director with strategic direction who supports the continuous development of a fully integrated, effective, and responsive division, branch, inter-branch, and inter-departmental teams and plays a key role in the department's senior management team.

This position is appointed by Order in Council as the Director of Family and Children's Services to carry out statutory duties under the Child and Family Services Act, Federal Youth Criminal Justice Act, Young Persons Offences Act, and Corrections (Young Offenders) Act, and Children's Law Act.

The success of this position will depend on the incumbent's knowledge and understanding of the values and principles of the Child and Family Services Act, Jordan's Principle, Youth Criminal Justice Act, restorative justice and extrajudicial measures, ability to establish effective relationships and work collaboratively with members of the department's senior leadership team; Council for Yukon First Nations, as well as First Nation, Federal, Provincial and Territorial governments; communities, and non-government organization's to achieve and execute on the department's mandate commitments as well as other government and program initiatives including the Integrated Restorative Justice Initiative.

Essential qualifications

Please submit your resume clearly demonstrating how you meet the qualifications below. Selections for further consideration will be based solely on the information you provide in your resume.

  • Masters or bachelor's degree in social work;
  • Recent senior management / executive level experience, including strong human and financial management skills, preferably in a government setting;
  • Significant recent experience in strategic planning, policy development and performance measurement;
  • Comprehensive experience in social services with preference for direct experience in child and family services; and,
  • Experience working with First Nations.

Candidates who have a masters or bachelor's degree in public administration or a related discipline in social sciences combined with significant senior management / executive experience in the area of Family and Children's Services / child welfare may be equally considered.
