This posting will be used to fill 1 permanent full-time position working 75 hours bi-weekly. It will establish a 12-month eligibility list which may be used to fill similar positions.

This job is based in the thriving and diverse city of Whitehorse in the beautiful Yukon.

Who we are

The Whitehorse Walk-In Clinic is a medical facility that accepts patients on a walk-in basis for medical treatment of non-urgent conditions. Nurse Practitioners at the clinic work autonomously to diagnose, order and interpret diagnostic tests, prescribe medications, and perform treatments for clients experiencing a variety of health concerns. Reporting to the Manager of the Walk-In Clinic, they will be part of a multidisciplinary team that includes social workers, licensed practical nurses, medical office assistants, pharmacist and physicians.

The ideal candidate will have experience working in a health clinic setting providing primary healthcare in close collaboration with other medical and allied health staff. The NP will deliver holistic, accessible and equitable care for patients while contributing to an environment that is inclusive, non-discriminatory, and physically, psychologically and culturally safe.

Essential qualifications

  • Registered or eligible to be registered as a Nurse Practitioner and in good standing with the Yukon Registered Nurses Association.
  • Recently applied knowledge of nursing theory, practices and techniques

Desired knowledge, skills and suitability

If selected for an interview, candidates should have, and may be assessed on, the following:

  • Ability to provide seamless care across different levels, from primary to specialized care, while collaborating with a multidisciplinary team
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • Experience providing care to diverse populations including individuals from various cultural, socioeconomic and ethnic backgrounds
  • Experience mentoring, coaching and training team members
  • Organizational skills
  • Critical thinking, relationship building and conflict management skills

Conditions of employment

You must meet the following conditions before being hired, or within the time frame noted.

  • TB screening
  • Vulnerable Sector RCMP security clearance
  • Valid CPR-HCP
  • WHMIS 2015 (completed within one month of hire)
  • Obtain and maintain registration in good standing with the Yukon Registered Nurses Association

Job requirements

This job requires you to perform, and/or be exposed to, the following:

  • Potential of Exposure to upset and verbally/physically abusive clients
  • Exposure to infectious materials (ex. Bodily fluids)
  • Periodical travel outside Yukon for conferences, meetings, or other forms of professional development.
  • Work in a clinic environment both physically and mobile.
