Job Summary and Requirements

This is a until -filled competition. Candidates are encouraged not to delay submitting their application as this posting can close at any time after 10 business days with 24-hour posted notice. This posting will be used to fill 1 (One) permanent full-time position working 75 hours bi-weekly. It will establish a 12-month eligibility list which may be used to fill similar positions.

This job is based in the thriving and diverse city of Whitehorse in the beautiful Yukon.

The Family and Children's Services Branch promotes and develops the capacity of families and communities to care for and protect vulnerable children and youth while supporting healthy child and family development to maximize the potential of every child in the Yukon. The Branch is responsible for territory-wide delivery of services and programs that support positive and healthy outcomes for children, youth, and their families.

Your impact

As a Placement Resource Social Worker, you are responsible for managing a specialized foster care and placement caseload, conducting assessments, providing counseling, and developing foster care plans. You will provide the provision of casework and counseling services in the areas of child protection and family services and provide consultation services to regional staff as well.

Essential qualifications

Please submit your resume clearly demonstrating how you meet the qualifications below. Selections for further consideration will be based solely on the information you provide in your resume.

  • Bachelor's degree in social work
  • Experience working with children and families in child welfare and foster care services
  • Experience providing family assessments, counseling, and crisis interventions, as well as providing support services to families and children
  • Experience working in a cross-cultural environment

If selected for an interview, candidates should have, and may be assessed on, the following:

  • Ability to conduct comprehensive family assessments
  • Ability to conduct quality of care reviews in foster homes
  • Strong conflict resolution skills and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to work as part of an interdisciplinary team
  • Effective oral and written communication skills

Conditions of employment

You must meet the following conditions before being hired, or within the time frame noted.

  • TB screening.
  • Vulnerable Sector Security Clearance.
  • Valid Class 5 Driver's Licence or equivalent; and,
  • Verification of Bachelor's of social work degree

Job requirements

This job requires you to perform, and/or be exposed to, the following:

  • Occasional travel within and outside of the Yukon.
  • Willingness to work extended hours with limited notice including some weekend or evening work; and,
  • Exposure to potentially emotional and/or violent clients.
