This position is at the L10 level with an hourly pay range of $49.90 to $66.65

(PIPSC Bargaining Unit)

Serving the entire Yukon, the new psychiatric stabilization program unit provides safe and culturally grounded mental health support to voluntary and involuntary patients for stabilization safe discharges back into the community. The Team Leader will use their extensive experience in clinical mental health and leadership to provide leadership and support to the development and implementation needs of a new unit. This position will be evolving and the successful candidate will provide a foundational role in envisioning and implementing the daily operations and services of the new unit. The incumbent will split their time between team lead duties (60% of time) and frontline clinical care duties (40%) for the unit.

  • Knowledge of standards of care and scope for practice of health care professionals
  • Knowledge of trends and developments in the mental health field;
  • Knowledge of clinical education principles;
  • Knowledge of the historical and contemporary issues facing First Nations.
  • Knowledge of program planning, evaluation and quality improvement processes
  • Knowledge of management methods and techniques.
  • Advocacy and assertiveness skills;
  • Excellent oral, written, and verbal communication skills
  • Effective organizational and presentation skills
  • Ability to teach mental health practices and other relevant unit skills;
  • Ability to effectively engage other professionals on an inter-disciplinary team
  • Ability to work with patients, families and communities with diverse backgrounds and circumstances demonstrating cross-cultural awareness

The successful applicant should have a Social Work Bachelor's degree in addition to being registered in good standing with a registered social work college. May consider higher education from related fields such as Diploma/Baccalaureate Degree in Nursing, Occupational Therapy and/or Counseling. A Minimum 3 years clinical leadership experience in a hospital setting including at least 2 years experience with Mental Health or Addictions clients. Experience with Meditech applications and First Nations Health Issues. Cross cultural awareness training is desired. Preference will be given to participants with a Masters of Social Work. An equivalent combination of training and/or experience may be considered.
