This posting will be used to fill 1 auxiliary on call positions working 80 bi-weekly.

It will establish a 3-month eligibility list which may be used to fill similar positions

This job is based in the thriving and diverse city of Whitehorse in the beautiful Yukon.

Who we are

Transitional Support Services provides trauma-informed and relationship-based care to children and youth through therapeutic group homes and outreach services. The young people we work with have often experienced trauma and loss and may present with a wide range of adaptive behaviours.

Who we are looking for

We are looking for Transitional Support Workers who are dedicated to creating safe and supportive environments for our children and youth, and who are committed to working from an empathetic and strengths-based approach. This takes energy, patience, adaptability, creativity and flexibility in the workplace. We are looking for individuals who are able to remain calm and focused during crisis. An individual who has excellent decision making skills, and who are reliable. Additionally, we are looking for individuals who understand, and are committed to, working collaboratively in a Yukon First Nation cultural context, and who have a strong understanding of intergenerational trauma.

Essential qualifications

Desired knowledge, skills and suitability

If selected for an interview, candidates should have, and may be assessed on, the following:

  • Ability to provide care and support to individuals in a home like or 24/7 living environment.
  • A genuine interest in clients of all ages, abilities and cultural backgrounds; particularly Yukon First Nations and a strong awareness of intergenerational trauma.
  • An understanding of the impacts related to adverse childhood experiences and the effects on development;
  • Trauma informed practice, crisis and conflict intervention skills;
  • Excellent oral communication that demonstrates strong collaborative and interpersonal skills;
  • Demonstrates continuous personal and professional learning and development
  • Solid commitment to professional ethical practice

Conditions of employment

You must meet the following conditions before being hired, or within the time frame noted.

Conditions of Pre-employment: RCMP security clearance working with vulnerable sector; Valid Class 5 driver's licence or equivalent; Current valid First Aid and CPR Level C, WHMIS 2015 and TB screening.

Conditions within the first 6 months of hire: CPI (Crisis Prevention Institute Training), and Risking Connection Training

Job requirements

This job requires you to perform, and/or be exposed to, the following:

Working in a 24/7 environment; shift work entailing days and nights and weekends, with vulnerable child and youth clients of various ages and genders. Clients may present with high physical and emotional needs and possibly aggressive behaviour. Physical activity within a home-like environment required.
